Walnuts – Territorial requirements

28 March 2020Category : News

Walnuts thrive in deep soils compared to other nuts.

They grow and have good yields in soils rich in organic matter, well drained, sandy, at least 2 meters deep.

In recent years, walnuts have also been planted in shallower soils that have been cultivated to achieve better structure and drainage through deep slurry and the addition of organic substances.

However, these orchards are relatively newly planted and long-term production figures remain to be established. Walnuts require a relatively neutral soil pH of 5.5-7.5

They are not resistant to saline soils.
