A few words about the Esmeralda nectarine variety

Esmeralda: late blooming, yellow-flesh nectarine variety

Variety breeder: PSB – Murcia, Spain

As a tree, it has semi-lateral behavior and high vigor. It can be planted in areas with medium and high chilling units. It blooms in a later season and it has abundant flowering.

Esmeralda’s fruit size is AA dominant (200gr) and its shape is round to oblong. It enters production swiftly and its yields are high every year.

The taste of the fruits is very good, sweet and balanced. Varieties that are harvested at the same time, do not have high taste and aroma characteristics as Esmeralda. Shortly, consumers, especially those in central Europe, will be searching for fruits with a pleasant taste.

The fruit color externally is attractive, with intense red on the largest part of the skin, without marks or spots. As happens with the taste, varieties that are maturing simultaneously with Esmeralda (ex. Morsiani 90) do not have a satisfactory level of the red skin color that Esmeralda has.

It does not show a broken pit. Also, it is not sensitive to rain cracking. Its firmness is very good, which makes it easy for the producer to pick it up from the tree and schedule his workflow.

Esmeralda is a late-maturing yellow-flesh variety. It is harvested from the end of August to the beginning of September. At the same period, similar nectarine varieties that are harvested together do not have its rich red color. Also, its skin is much less sensitive to present defects such as rust, spots or sugar lentils.
