A few words about the Honey Late nectarine variety

Category : NECTARINES

Honey Late: a yellow-flesh, late-blooming nectarine variety.

Breeder of Honey Late variety: Zaiger Genetics – California, USA

Editor of the variety in Europe: IPS – Montelimar, France

As a tree, it has semi-lateral behavior and medium vigor. Honey Late’s blooming is considered medium to late and it is abundant. It can be planted in areas of medium to high chilling units. The fruit size is AA dominant. The shape of the fruit is round to elongated. Honey Late produces a high yield and if the goal is for a bigger fruit size, thinning must be done early and it has to be strict.  As a cultivar, it enters production very fast. The mother plantation that our nursery are cutting buds from had 1500kg per hectare in the second to third summer. Its high yield is consistent every year.

Honey Late has a sweet and aromatic taste which is considered good. Color is attractive, with intense red on the largest part of the fruit΄s skin without marks. Inside, the flesh of the fruit has a yellow color. Outside, the skin is without marks, rust, or sugar spots. Among the advantages of the variety are the fact that it does not have a broken pit, it is resistant to rain cracking, and the firmness of the flesh is very good, which makes it a stress-free option for the grower while harvesting.

Honey Late is a late-harvested variety (end of August – beginning of September) with clear skin, high productivity and increased resistance. It is observed to have good production even during “difficult” Spring years. Also, despite its high yield at a young age (2nd to 3d summer), the size of the fruit was more than acceptable.
