Melivoias chestnut variety is harvested in mid-October.
It originates from a random selection of seedlings in Melivoia village of Agia in the Prefecture of Larissa.
As a tree, it has moderate vigor and open behavior. Its production is considered to be very satisfactory and is resistant to post-harvest diseases.
Melivoias nut is elliptical or triangular or spherical, large in size and brown in color.
The pericarp is large. The skin of the sperm is sour and it penetrates deep into the sperm folds. Typically, each nut envelope includes 2 to 3 nuts, but sometimes also 1. It is suitable for boiling and baked chestnuts, but also for confectionery and industry. It has a distinct place in the domestic market as well as in exports as it is the first fruits selected by traders.
