A few words about the Texas almond variety
Texas variety (Texas almond) is a classic variety and it originates from USA.
As a tree it has erect behavior and its growth is considered vigorous.
Its blossoming is considered to be late (compared to classical varieties) and is not a self-fertile variety.
Its fruit is almond-shaped, medium-sized and matures in September.
The kernel is semi-hard and the nut to kernel ratio ranges up to 46%. It shows a double fruit percentage of 20%. Its taste is very good and commercially used mainly by the processing and confectionery industries.
It is very important for producers to know that Texas is very sensitive to the non-parasitic necrosis of the buds. Our nursery is using budwoods from healthy mothers plantation each year and our seedlings do not show any symptoms of the above problem. However, this problem may occur in the producer’s field. Producers should remove problematic trees and refresh with healthy directly.
