RitaBecause of its very early ripening, market prices are always in high levels.
A few words for the Rita variety:
Rita is a super-early cherry variety which is harvested 10 days after Burla.
It originates from the variety breeding program by Sándor Brózik and Apostol János (Hungary).
As a tree, it has low-medium vigor and open behavior. It blossoms in the middle season (not early) and it has to be planted in combination with the appropriate pollinators. Because of its low vigor, it needs to be grafted in strong rootstocks like Maxma 14.
Rita’s fruit size is considered medium (24-26mm / 6-7 grams). During the beginning of the maturity, the skin color is bright red and in the end, it becomes dark red. The flesh has red color and medium firmness. Its taste is very satisfactory for the period.
It is very sensitive to rain cracking and covering it with plastic film is mandatory. Rita is a technically difficult variety, but despite that, its early-maturing makes it very profitable for the producer as it has very high prices in the market.
