Characteristics
Tree and Fruit characteristicsNestor Apricot is a super-early self-fertile apricot variety (Mogador’s Replacement).
It comes from the variety improvement program of the French company PSB based in Murcia, Spain.
It has vigorous growth and the behavior of the tree is semi-open. Its flowering begins with the Colorado variety and is rich with a high percentage of good quality flowers.
Its production is very high. Particularly when formed in the “Spanish Shrub” system (2.5 x 5 meters planting distances and no more than 2.5 meters tree height ) then the yield can exceed 30 tons per hectare.
The fruit is of good size and spherical shape. The flesh’s firmness is very good and presents much smaller percentages of split-pit than its main competitive variety (Mogador). The coloration of the fruit is orange with a red blush in a large percentage of the skin.
A significant advantage over other varieties ripening at the same time (Mogador, Wonder Cott, Maya Cott, Tsunami etc) is its excellent taste combined with its self-fertility.
