A few words about the Mikado apricot variety
Mikado apricot is a super-early self-fertile variety.
It comes from the variety improvement program of the French company PSB based in Murcia, Spain.
It has vigorous growth and the behavior of the tree is semi-open. Its flowering begins 5 days before the Colorado variety and is rich with a high percentage of good quality flowers.
Its production is very high. Particularly when formed in the “Spanish Shrub” system (2.5 x 5 meters planting distances and no more than 2.5 meters tree height ) then the yield can exceed 30 tons per hectare.
The fruit is of good size and spherical shape. The flesh’s firmness is very good and presents much smaller percentages of split-pit than its main competitive variety (Mogador). The coloration of the fruit is orange with a red blush in a large percentage of the skin. The taste is considered good and balanced.
Sharka tolerance markers are 0/9.
